Not long after getting to know each other on this film Bacon got down on one knee—and while Sedgwick’s pre-marital excitement was evident, there was one thing standing in the way of pure bliss.

“I found this ring and I thought it was banging,” Bacon shared on an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. He popped the question and Sedgwick happily said yes, but a short three months later, the actress had a confession. “We’re lying in bed and she wakes up in the middle of the night and she’s crying. She can’t even say what’s going on. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, what’s happened?’ I thought maybe she was breaking up with me or I don’t know what I thought. Finally she goes, ‘I don’t like the ring.’” Luckily, the duo swapped it out for something more her style, and in 1988, they tied the knot.

Bacon and Sedgwick have two children together, Travis and Sosie. While Travis is a musician and Sosie is an actress, both Bacon kids are joining Mom and Dad on screen together in an upcoming film titled Family Movie, of which Kevin and Kyra are directing. The horror-comedy will tell the story of a filmmaking family who are in for the experience of a lifetime when they discover a body on set of the slasher film they’re making. Though Travis, 35, and Sosie, 32, are all grown up now, this family unit is tighter than ever.

“I’m one of those lucky people whose kids actually want to hang out with me,” Sedgwick told AARP in 2021. “I don’t know how that happened, but I’m in. Available anytime!”

It felt, there’s this word again, but like a lack of humility to be proud somehow. Now I’m like, actually, there’s humility in the pride. Because it’s been a long time and it hasn’t always been easy, of course.”
